It's David Vs. Goliath At SDCCU Stadium Saturday

Don't tell Rocky Long that!

My apologies to San Jose State, but this is the game on the schedule that is a guaranteed win.

I mean, I do know that no game is guaranteed. But with what we’ve seen this year when the Aztecs play, on paper this is a David versus Goliath matchup for the Spartans.

Let’s start with the Aztecs defense. Keep in mind, there are 129 ranked teams in the FBS.

The Spartans are scoring 22.3 points per game, which is good enough for the bottom at 115th in the country. The Aztecs defense is allowing 19.3 points per game, which is 26th best in the country.

This one makes me feel sad for the Spartans. I kind of want to hug them after this one, they rank 129th of 129 teams in rushing yards per game with only 50.3 per game. The Aztecs are the 5th best rushing defense in the country, allowing only 87.2 yards per game.

Let’s go to the Aztecs offense. And for this I don’t feel like I need to give them a hug, but maybe a pat on the back with a…”there there.” This one is not as drastic.

The Spartans are 124th in the country, allowing 41.3 points per game, versus the Aztecs scoring 21.5 points per game. That is actually the lowest rank the Aztecs as a team have at 117.

The Spartans give up 182.5 rushing yards in the game (94th), while the Aztecs are best at rushing the ball, averaging 171.8 yards per game (68th). Get used to a lot of these!

Aztecs quarterback Ryan Agnew is smiling from ear to ear this week because the Spartans allow 290.3 yards per game through the air (120th). The Aztecs have not been very effective through the air this year, passing for only 168.2 yards per game which puts them near the bottom at 112th.

With all that said, Coach Rocky Long would scold me for even thinking this game is an easy win. His team is always prepared for a battle, and I don’t think this week will be any different.
