US Open Leader Board has a SD Flavor

Final two groups feature San Diego Golfers, all five San Diego players make the cut

The US Open continued on Friday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course with a San Diego flavor on top of the leaderboard after two days of play.  Here is a look at the local San Diego players competing in our national championship.

 

SDSU Alum Scott Piercy finished his round at one under par. He followed up with a one over par 71 on Friday to finish the day at 140 for two days tied for second in the Tournament with an another San Diego product Charley Hoffman. 

 

Poway High School’s Hoffman finished his first round at one over par and followed up with a one-under 69 to earn his share of second place.  The final two groups at Shinnecock Hills with feature Piercy and Hoffman.  Hoffman will play with Tommy Fleetwood at 11:59 Pacific and Scott Piercy will tee off along with leader Dustin Johnson at 12:10 San Diego time. 

 

 

Xander Schauffele from Scripps Ranch High School and San Diego State shot a two-over par on day one. He follows up with a 74 on Friday for a 146 over the first two days of the US Open. He is tied for 35 going into Saturday’s round.  Xander will tee off at 9:03 Pacific playing with Aaron Baddeley.

 

Torrey Pines High’s Pat Perez finished his first round at three over. He followed up with a one over on Friday with a 71.  That puts him 144 for the first two days tied for 14th.  Pat Perez will play with Justin Thomas at tee off at 10:42 San Diego time.

 

Carlsbad resident, and University of San Diego/Cathedral Catholic High School Alumni Phil Mickelson, struggled in the Thursday round. Despite hitting all but one fairway, Mickelson finished at seven-over par. Lefty came back stronger on Friday posting a one under 69 to put him in a tie along with Schauffele for 35th place.  Phil will tee off at 8:30 am Pacific along with Andrew Johnston

That's great news for local golf fans as all five San Diego golfer made the cut and will play over the weekend.
