The polls have closed and the votes are being counted in San Diego.  After a contentious election cycle, the winners and losers are emerging.  Measure G, known as SDSU West, appears to be heading towards victory according to ESPN.com.  Measure E, known as Soccer City, appears headed towards defeat after early returns had its support well under the fifty percent it would need to become reality.  According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, election night results had Soccer City hovering at just thirty percent voter approval.

Measure G SDSU West issued the following statement to 97.3 The Fan:

“With the overwhelming approval of Measure G today, San Diego State University will now have an opportunity to grow through an open and transparent process that will benefit our economy long-term. Even more importantly this vibrant campus expansion will increase access to higher education for generations of San Diegans to come. Tonight may be the end of our campaign, but the work is far from over. Now, it’s time for SDSU and the City of San Diego to work together to make this vision a reality. “

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer tweeted
