NFL Contenders and Pretenders

Sunday's Winners and Losers including the Bolts

Here are this week's Contenders and Pretenders for Week One of the NFL Season

Aaron Rodgers - Green Bay Packers

Is Rodgers the GOAT with the least amount of bling, maybe so.  After leaving the feild on a cart and then leadng the Packers to a win in the second half, some fans in New England will scream Tom Brady, but for everyone else eveyone else the debate rages on.

Khalil Mack - Chicago Bears

What a week for Mack, holds out with the Raiders, then gets traded to Bears and gets a monster of the midway type deal.  Sunday morning Jay Glazer reports that the Raiders never really negotiated with him.  Then he goes out and puts on a show on Sunday Night Football that would have made him number one on my list if it weren't for Rodgers and the show he put on.  The one thing I think everyone has missed with the Mack story is that he came out of small college without much fanfare until the combines.  He went 5th overall and had to listen to the haters doubting he because he came for a small school like Buffalo.  This was his first big opportunity for getting the respect he earned in terms of money.  In pro sports money equals respect and if you are the best defensive player in the league then you should be paid the most.  he proved last night he was worth every penny.

Jimmy G and the 49ers

I was so hoping the 49ers were back after the last few games of 2017.  But we see that being the man is a lot tougher than it looks.  Jimmy G is a very good passer but just didn't get into a rhythm in game one.  I know they don't have a strong running game and he was under pressure, but when you get the keys to the kingdom, you also get the responsibility that comes along with it.  There is much more work that needs to be done in San Francisco.

The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys just didn't look ready for prime time against the Panthers.  They couldn't run, or pass or do much of anything.  Dak Prescott looked lost with out Jason Witten and Dez Bryant, we didn't have a security blanket to help steady him.  Ezekiel Elliott never got going running downhill on his 15 carries either.  They need improve next week becasue they will be in prime time versus the Giants.

Chargers Fans in LA

This is not a shot at San Diego football fans or Chargers Fans in general.  I'd like to take a shot at Chargers fans that live in the 213, 310 area codes, but I dont think there any.  It's just sad watching the game the Chiefs and Bolts game yesterday.  You saw a sea of red in the stands and even heard the Tomahawk Chop chant during the game.  The only thing that made it bearable was the network's camera angels that don't show you how small that stadium is and how many empty seats there were.  The whole thing is a shame a real shame.
