Fernando Tatis, Jr blasted a pair of home runs, and Francisco Mejia continued his torrid power-hitting streak on Wednesday afternoon as the San Diego Padres defeated the Atlanta Braves, 9-4, to complete a three-game sweep.

Tatis homered in the third inning off loser Max Fried to get the Padres (5-2) on the scoreboard, then all but wrapped up the victory, with a three-run shot off reliever Luke Jackson in the eigth. But again the real story was Mejia, who homered for the fourth consecutive game, hitting a two-run blast in the fourth inning off Fried to put the Padres ahead for good.

Chris Paddack (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing three runs and striking out eight, to pick up the victory. He coughed up homers to Ozzie Albies and Dansby Swanson in the second inning as the Padres fell behind early, 2-0. After Tatis homered in the third, San Diego put together a five-run rally to take the lead in the fourth. Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer hit back-to-back doubles for a run before Mejia connected again, a towering shot to the bleachers in left.

The rally continued with a Jurickson Profar double, two walks, and an RBI single from Trent Grisham. Machado walked with the bases loaded to force in the final run as the Padres batted around in the inning.

Atlanta threatened in the ninth, scoring on an RBI double by Ronald Acuna, Jr. But with two runners on and one out, Michel Baez came out of the Padres bullpen to retire Freddie Freeman and Marcel Ozuna, both on fly balls to left field to end it.
