Marquez Pitches Rockies Past Padres, 7-2, for Weekend Sweep at Coors

The Padres lose their first sweep of the season in Game 10.

German Marquez allowed just a pair of solo home runs Sunday afternoon, limited San Diego to only five more singles in all, and the Colorado Rockies completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Padres, 7-2.

Marquez struck out seven and walked only one. He out-pitched Joey Lucchesi, who went six innings and also allowed two homers, one to Nolan Arenado with a man on in the third, and a solo shot to Charlie Blackmon in the fifth. It was Blackmon's fourth home run against San Diego this season. 

Josh Naylor started the scoring with his first home run of the year in the second. Tommy Pham, mred in an early-season slump, homered in the eigth to close the scoring. In beween, Marquez was in control. Leading 4-1 in the seventh, Colorado put away the game with three runs off reliever Emilio Pagan, two coming on Garrett Hampson's two run triple. 

The Padres, who were coming off a three game sweep over the Atlanta Braves in their last series, are now 5-5 on the young season. San Diego travels to Atlanta for three games beginning Monday night before reurning to America's Finest City to start a homestand Friday against the San Francisco Giants.
