Joey Bosa is Back in Play with Chargers

Today's players ask more questions about health, and maybe that's a good thing.

So it looks like Los Angeles Charger star defensive lineman Joey Bosa has been cleared to start practicing with the team. Well, it is about time that the guy gets his ass back to work.  Look I'm not here to question if a player is injured or not, but the recent history of the family’s actions speak to, well, "how hurt was Bosa?”

I get we are in a different era of player.  Today's players do ask more questions, and maybe that is a good thing for the player’s health in the end.  I would never question a drill or how hard we practiced, and I know many men who played in the NFL during my era that are in some of the worst shape you could ever imagine health wise.  So maybe my thinking is what is still wrong with the sport of football?  My OLD MAN THINKING!!!

I talk all the time on my show about the issues with CTE in football players, and yet, I at 52 years of age have not even changed my thinking process on how players should be treated.  See, maybe John Bosa, Joey's father, is right.  He played during my short time in the NFL, and maybe he's not only being a good role model for his son, but also looking out for his son's long-term health.  John Bosa was a former #1 pick out of Boston College and also had a very short NFL career, so he knows the dangers of the NFL.  He recently pulled his son Nick from the Ohio State program after Nick, who is also expected to be a 1st round pick and maybe even the #1 overall pick in the 2019 draft, because of a stomach injury which he has healed from.  Nick could have continued to play this year in Columbus, but the father said no.  They began working on Nick’s future in the NFL.

I guess what I’m saying here, is that I am still too set in my ways to see that maybe I should have asked more questions of what coaches were doing to players instead of just running into the fire.

In the end, KUDOS TO JOHN BOSA FOR BEING A DAD.
