The Padres were able to score double digit runs for the sixth time this season on Sunday after beating the Chicago Cubs 10-6.

San Diego jumped out to a 4-0 lead when Hunter Renfroe hit a sacrifice fly to right in the first inning, that scored Manuel Margot. Later in the second inning, Freddy Galvis hit a solo home run to get the inning started. Eric Hosmer would add to the 1-0 lead with a triple to deep center field that scored Jose Pirela and Joey Lucchesi.

With a four run lead, Padres starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi pitched well while under the weather. Pitching in the hot Chicago summer heat, Lucchesi tied a career high, nine strikeouts on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision, but finished the ballgame allowing two earned runs on seven hits over 5.2 inning pitched.

The Cubs would roar back in the middle innings tying the game up at five in the seventh inning off a pinch-hit Anthony Rizzo single that scored Ian Happ and Albert Almora Jr.

San Diego would not falter after the seventh inning however, as they were able to retake the lead in the eighth inning, when Corey Spangenberg ripped a double to right center field scoring Travis Jankowski.

The Padres would get some much needed insurance in the ninth inning by hanging a four spot, highlighted by a Hunter Renfroe two–run homer to left.

Ben Zobrist would get a solo home run in the bottom half of the ninth but that would be it for the Cubs, solidifying a 10-6 victory for the Padres.

The biggest highlight of the game? It belongs to Franmil Reyes in the fourth inning with his 477-foot homer to center field, that gave the Padres a 5-1 lead. If you missed it hear is what it sounded like on 973 The Fan below!
