Hunter Renfroe hit a moon shot home run to center field in the sixth inning on Saturday night, but unfortunately that was the lone bright spot for the Padres tonight.

Young right hander Jacob Nix started the game for the Padres, and did not have the greatest of performances. He was only able to get through 2.1 inning, allowing six runs on six hits and only striking out two Dodgers tonight.

The majority of the damage came in the third inning, when the Dodgers sent ten batters to the plate. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Manny Machado, who deposited a three run home run over the right-center field fence.

Hunter Renfroe was able to answer in the sixth inning with a solo shot to center field to make the game 6-1 going into the bottom half of the inning. Mark Grant on the call on 97.3 The Fan, take a listen:

Yasmani Grandal was able to get the run back for the Dodgers in the bottom half of the sixth inning with a solo home run of his own, to make it a 7-1 game.

The score would remain the same until the ninth inning, when the Padres were able to scratch across a run on a Manuel Margot single with the bases loaded and only one out. After Margot’s RBI single, the Dodgers brought in closing pitcher Kenley Jansen who struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning and preserve the win for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Padres and Dodgers will play for the last time in 2018 on Sunday, in a rubber match of their three game series. First pitch is at 1:10pm with the pregame show starting at 12:10pm on the only home for San Diego Padres baseball, 97.3 The Fan.
