The Padres are going to look to bounce back after the tough series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. To do so, they will have to take down another national league west member, the San Francisco Giants.

After the series sweep, the Padres are 18 games out of first place. The Giants remain just on the outside of contention for a playoff spot. They stand six and a half games behind the Dodgers.

Pitching Preview:

Monday 7:10 (PDT)

The series opener will be a battle between two lefties. Eric Lauer will be on the mound for the Padres. He will have to be significantly better than he has been in his last two starts. Against the Cubs, Lauer gave up five earned runs through two innings. He followed that start with another loss to the Mets. For the Monday game, he will have to go up against Derek Holland. The Giants starter is 5-8 on the year and has a 3.92 ERA.

The Wizard of Hos:

This will be Holland’s third start against the Padres this year. In 15 at-bats against Holland, Eric Hosmer is hitting .400. He also has a home run and four runs batted in to add to his impressive batting average.

Tuesday 1:10 (PDT)

Game two of the mid-week series will be a tough task for the Padres. Dereck Rodriguez has been quite good in his recent appearances. In his last 35 innings, Rodriguez has a 1.53 ERA. Competing with Rodriguez is Clayton Richard. Richard had a good stint of games earlier this year, but the month of July was rough. In addition, he has not done well in the other games against the Giants this year. On April 14th he gave up four earned runs in a loss. In a 4-9 loss on May 2nd, Richard gave up seven earned runs through four innings.

The Padres will head to Wrigley field on Wednesday to take on the Cubs. The Cubs swept the Padres just last week.
